Greetings from Grant Park, Chicago

Blog. November 5th, 2008

The first polls have closed in the 2008 presidential election. It is highly dangerous to draw conclusions this early in an election night so I won’t bother. Suffice to say that, even though only seven per cent of precincts in Indiana have reported, Obama is running McCain close there — which augurs well for the Democrat. The Obama people here in Chicago, meanwhile, seem pretty relaxed — though you can draw your own conclusions as to how much that is rooted in confidence about the result and how much is just relief that the rigors of a campaign that began more than 600 days ago are finally over. More details to follow if time allows.
